BYD’s Electric 2015: Taking "Tang" as "Ming"
From 19: 38 to 20: 58, Wang Chuanfu talked about solar energy from oil, smog from disease, and the South China Sea issue from the Straits of Malacca … … For a whole hour and 20 minutes, during the seemingly casual chat, he set the tone for BYD in 2015 at the macro level through his feelings: focusing on new energy.
This scene took place at the Yantian Sports Center in Shenzhen on the evening of January 20th, the scene of BYD’s first Difen Conference. In fact, this conference has another name — — BYD’s "World-class Technology Analysis Conference" is held once a year. Presumably, at the last conference, a 70-page brochure, which listed almost all BYD’s technologies, still made the experienced media people remember it vividly.
This year’s conference, in addition to changing the name, the theme seems to have changed a little. Don’t talk about electronics, interconnection, cloud and technology … … Just talk about new energy. Starting from the pre-sale price of 300,000 yuan in Tang Dynasty, Song, Yuan and even Ming were mentioned in turn. The 6-engine 4-drive technology killer and the 3.9-second 100-kilometer acceleration time were indeed enough to support the gold content of the most important conference in BYD’s eyes.
BYD’s vision of a new energy empire is gradually coming to fruition, starting from the field of public transportation and finally cutting into the personal consumption market. Wang Chuanfu said, "When all this is done, I can retire.".
"Tang" at the beginning
Last year, BYD Qin accidentally caught fire again. The annual sales volume of 14,747 units, in addition to firmly sitting on the throne of new energy vehicle sales champion, is a real test of BYD’s production capacity. The phenomenon of demand exceeding supply, led by Shanghai, frequently appears in eight cities where Qin landed.
Compared with Qin’s dual-engine and dual-mode, after adding a motor, Tang evolved into a three-engine four-wheel drive — — A 2.0TI engine with two motors in front and rear, and four-wheel drive. It is worth mentioning that in terms of four-wheel drive technology, BYD Tang is not equipped with a transfer case and a transmission shaft like the traditional four-wheel drive model, but drives the front and rear axles independently by two motors, and then the power is distributed by a unified control system to realize four-wheel drive. With the peak torque of the front and rear motors of 250Nm and the maximum power assistance of 110kw, Tang’s 100-kilometer acceleration performance after technical optimization increased from 5.9 seconds in Qin Dynasty to 4.9 seconds.
In order to highlight Tang’s acceleration performance, BYD specially arranged the test drive experience of the car on the morning of the conference. Although due to the limited number of vehicles, not every media and Difen has the opportunity to experience it, according to the participants who experienced it, Tang’s sense of acceleration is somewhat similar to Tesla Model S, with a strong sense of pushing back and even a brief dizziness. Judging from the results of the 200-meter linear acceleration, Tang’s performance was basically stable at around 7.9 seconds when he took four people in the car.
In the driving mode, Tang offers the choice of HEV (four-wheel drive+sports+hybrid mode) and EV (four-wheel drive+economy+pure electric mode). The former focuses on performance, and the engine and motor work together, with the best power; The latter focuses on economy, and the power battery provides electric energy to drive the vehicle with the power supply machine.
If the vehicle is short of power in EV mode, the system will automatically switch from EV mode to HEV mode, and use the engine to drive. When the vehicle is driving at a relatively stable medium and high speed, part of the torque output by the engine will drive the front motor to generate electricity, and the rear motor will drive, giving consideration to economy and four-wheel drive.
As the highlight of the conference, Tang announced the pre-sale price of 300,000 yuan and 600,000 yuan. Interestingly, when BYD was the first to announce the pre-sale price of 600,000 yuan, the friends at the scene were all shocked into a cold sweat. Later, when everyone looked intently, it turned out to be the extreme version of Tang. This price can’t explain the problem, but only show the attitude. The pre-sale price of the ordinary version of Tang is 300,000 yuan, which Che Yun thinks is reasonable. With the subsidies from each city, the sales volume of this car is expected to surpass that of Qin.
Interestingly, within 12 minutes after the official acceptance of the reservation at 5: 42 on January 21, the first batch of 100 Tang cars, including 98 regular models and 2 extreme models, were quickly declared sold out.
"Song and Yuan Dynasties" Follow-up
In April last year, BYD released the "542 Strategy", in which "5" means that all models are accelerated within 5 seconds at 0-100km/h, 4 represents all-round four-wheel drive and 2 represents fuel consumption within 2L per 100 km. As the first model of this strategy, Tang is just the beginning.
Lian Yubo, senior vice president of BYD Co., Ltd. and chief engineer of automobile industry group, said that after Tang Dynasty, Song and Yuan will join the "542 Strategy" vehicle camp in the second and third quarters of this year, because both Tang, Song and Yuan models are SUVs, and 2015 will be BYD’s "SUV Year".
At the press conference, Song Heyuan’s model parameters were also announced for the first time.
It is reported that Song is located in a compact SUV, equipped with a dual-mode full-time electric four-wheel drive system. The powertrain consists of 1.5TI+DCT+ motor, with a vehicle mass of 2000kg, a length, width and height of 4,565/1,830/1,720 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. Yuan’s size is smaller than Song’s, and it is also equipped with a dual-mode full-time electric four-wheel drive system. The vehicle’s mass is 1850kg, its length, width and height are 4320/1765/1650mm respectively, and its wheelbase is 2520 mm.
Of course, don’t forget the business. Although it is not an SUV, this MPV model, which was unveiled at last year’s Beijing Auto Show, is also part of BYD’s lineup of new energy vehicles. The company is equipped with dual-engine dual-mode technology, and its hybrid system consists of a 1.5L gasoline engine with a maximum power of 80kW and a 110kW motor, with a combined maximum power of 190kW. It is reported that the car’s comprehensive fuel consumption per kilometer is 2.24L, and the acceleration time of 100 kilometers is only 7.5 seconds, which is MPV… … ..
In addition, in the interview after the press conference, a model named Han was also revealed by Wang Chuanfu, but he did not further disclose the specific parameters and launch time of the car.
The "Ming" of the finale
In Wang Chuanfu’s view, BYD’s limit in the field of new energy vehicles is far more than that, and they are "making big moves". BYD said last year that "Tesla was built in minutes", and now this car is really coming.
At the press conference, Lian Yubo said that BYD will launch the first six-engine four-wheel drive model "Ming" in 2017, which is equipped with an engine and five motors. The five motors are one series motor and four motors that drive four wheels respectively. In BYD’s eyes, this is a six-engine four-wheel drive dual-mode "big killer", and the acceleration time of 100 kilometers will reach 3.9 seconds.
Wang Chuanfu introduced that in addition to performance optimization, the biggest feature of "Ming" is safety. "Traditional mechanical vehicles are single-point. In the electronic age, they can be driven in a distributed way. Each wheel corresponds to a motor to achieve a negative 100% torque. In 600 milliseconds, many actions can be done to stop traffic accidents by electronic control."
In addition, Wang Chuanfu revealed that with the technical support of six-engine four-wheel drive, BYD will develop an active safety system, including the functions of car body self-balancing, braking failure prevention, steering failure prevention, rollover prevention and side slip prevention, all of which are intelligently adjusted by driving the wheels of the motor.
Charging matching
In addition to the product itself, BYD also publicly displayed the charging tower of pure electric vehicle in the air and the 3+3 circulating stereo charger in Shenzhen Pingshan factory for the first time on the morning of the conference, and released relevant data.
BYD Tower has 10 floors, and adopts a rotating tower structure. 40 cars can be parked on a single floor, and 400 cars can be parked and charged at the same time on the 10th floor. The 40kW fast charging equipment can fully charge BYD E6 within 2 hours. It is reported that the total power of the entire charging tower is 14400kW. In the charging tower, users can observe the charging status of vehicles in real time through the LED screen in the lounge.
In addition, the total parking capacity of the 3+3 circulating stereo charger is 72 sets, and there are 2 sets of parking devices consisting of 3 units, each unit can park 12 cars. It is reported that each parking space is equipped with charging equipment with a power of 40kW and a total installed capacity of 2950kW (including lighting and air conditioning). According to the charging time, 216 vehicles can be served every day.
